Inspiration of my art work comes from nature.  My sculptures are primarily hand carved songbirds, but may include birds of prey and shorebirds, using Basswood exclusively.  Each feather is carved in separately with hand chisels and textured with a pyrographic pen.  The birds are painted with acrylics using a technique of washes and fine brush strokes to achieve softness and life-like characteristics.  The legs are shaped from copper and bronze wire and silver soldered.  Most of the carvings are set in their natural habitats.  Bronze, copper and brass are used to make these environments which are silver soldered.  Many of the flowers, seeds, and berries are carved of wood.  The free form bases are carved from Oak, Cherry, or Walnut.
